Paper Castle is a web app that teaches students to read using a systematic synthetic phonics approach. It is designed not to conflict with other phonics systems. It can be completed independently by the student or one-to-one with a teacher or tutor. The ten-minute daily practice sequentially develops all of the key phonics skills. It also efffectively supports phonics intervention.
Paper Castle is the result of a decade of teacher development, involving two previous apps and countless paper-based systems. There is a strong research foundation covering everything from which fonts are easiest for young readers, to the effects of incremental rehearsal on delayed retrieval.
Getting started is easy. As it's a web app, it can be run through any browser or installed on an iPad as a web app. It's free to use and requires no login, which makes it easy to trial with a class. Below you will find a link to launch the app, a full guide, and related resources.
